Reblog if you’ve ever read fan-fiction that actually set the bar higher.

#yup#it’s so hard to read published fiction now#so much of it is just sooo baaad#but like#part of the gate keeper effect to publishing#is that they don’t get inundated with all these stories using similar tropes#tropes don’t get refined like they do in fanfiction#published fiction ends up feeling cliche and clunky and incredibly slow#where fanfiction works through every possible iteration of a trope or a technique in a matter of months#and then comes back and turns old beloved tropes on their heads#while published fiction is still floundering with the basics of something that fanfiction explored in depth years ago#it’s like when someone shows you a ‘cool new funny meme’ from fb#and you’re like#that was on tumblr in 2007#and it’s not even a particularly good example of the meme#it’s a mediocre example at best#from before the meme really got going and people got really imaginative#that’s how published fiction feels to me these days#in comparison to fanfiction#anyway#tag talking#fanfiction#reading (via)

I’ve had this question for a long time now, and maybe I can ask it here? It’s about the topic of swearing. I (try to) always tag it in my fics and all that include it are rated T at least (though for reasons other than swearing). I only do it because I’ve seen others do it. Swearing and profanity are not a big deal for me at all, I guess it’s a cultural thing? (1/2)

I’m from Germany (for perspective: swear words are censored rarely at all, songs with explicit lyrics are played on the radio and it’s totally normal, etc.) I’d really like to hear other people’s perspectives on this. Tagging swear words seems pretty pointless to me, but maybe some people here think differently? (2/2)

I don’t really care about profanity, either anon, but I still tag it for exactly the reason you give. There are people out there who do care about swearing, and I want to give them a heads up that it’s in my fic. People who don’t care one way or the other won’t care about the tag either. People who don’t want to read that sort of language will appreciate the heads up.

Let’s see what others think, shall we?

I tag for dirty talking/talking dirty. I don’t tag swearing.

have you ever thought about how in the versions of the spider-man canon where Peter’s web shooting is accomplished by technology rather than being an actual superpower that means he really just….could have…very easily not done that. like he could have had any weapon. he could have had weapons he didn’t have to invent himself and build from scratch. but they wouldn’t have been spider-themed so he just. he did that. for the Aesthetic.

Peter saw he got bit by a spider and decided to die on that rock

Without his webbing ability, is he really Spider-Man? Or is he a costume viligante that can cling to walls?
